Preci

Preci is a municipality with 757 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 82 km ². The municipality is situated approximately 60 km south-east of Perugia, at Valle Castoriana ( Castorianatal ). The municipality is located in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone E, 2394 GR / G. It belongs to the National Park Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini and the community Cittaslow.

The neighboring municipalities are Castelsantangelo sul Nera (MC ), Cerreto di Spoleto, Norcia and Visso (MC).

  • Abeto, the district at 970 meters above sea level with about 20 inhabitants. Is located about 8 km south of Preci.
  • Acquaro, the district at 1001 meters above sea level. Since 1809 part of the municipality of Preci.
  • Belforte, the district at 617 meters above sea level with about 30 inhabitants. Since 1809 part of the municipality of Preci.
  • Collazzoni, the district at 868 meters above sea level with about 30 inhabitants
  • Castelvecchio, the district at 633 meters above sea level with about 35 inhabitants.
  • Collescille, the district at 944 meters above sea level on Mount Moricone (approx. 1433 m) with about 15 inhabitants.
  • Corone, the district at 495 meters above sea level at the river Campiano. Has along with San Vito about 50 inhabitants.
  • Fiano d' Abeto, the district at 900 meters above sea level with about 10 inhabitants.
  • Montaglioni, the district at 901 meters above sea level with a population of approximately 5. Originated in 1328 as Mons ad Lunam.
  • Montebufo, a hamlet at 1016 meters above sea level with about 15 inhabitants.
  • Piedivalle, the district at 611 meters above sea level at the river Campiano with about 35 inhabitants.
  • Poggio di Croce district at 938 meters above sea level with about 10 inhabitants.
  • Roccanolfi, the district at 775 meters above sea level with about 35 inhabitants in oblita Valley.
  • Saccovescio, the district at 724 meters above sea level with about 35 inhabitants in Castoriana Valley. Since 1819 part of the municipality of Preci.
  • San Vito district at 495 meters above sea level at the river Campiano. Has Corone along with about 50 inhabitants.
  • Todiano, the district at 879 meters above sea level with about 35 inhabitants.
  • Valle (German Valley ), the district between the valleys oblita and Castoriana.

History

First mentioned in writing in 1232, the town was in a document. The place name comes from the word prece (prayer ). In the second half of the 13th century, the castle was built in what is now the town center. Original belonged to Preci Spoleto, but fell in 1276 to Norcia. In 1328 the town was badly damaged by an earthquake. After a rebellion against Norcia of this, the city was destroyed in 1528. Five years later, the castle with the permission of Pope Paul III was. established under the condition of reconciliation with Norcia again. After the Napoleonic occupation of the city in 1817 was declared by Pope Pius VII, an independent municipality. After the unification of Italy, the population of about 3050 rose to approximately 3550 in 1921. Thereafter the population level fell steadily until 2001 to about 820 residents. In 1997, the city was hit by another earthquake, in which the old town was badly damaged.

Attractions

  • Abbazia di Sant'Eutizio, Abbey dating from the 5th century near the hamlet Piedivalle on the mountain of Monte Moricone and Macchialunga, which was founded by Aramaic monks and hermits. It was here that the foundation of today's surgery school. The church contains works by Giovanni Battista Crescenzi ( Sant'Antonio Abate, 1596 originated ).

  • Castello di Roccanolfi, castle of the 12th century in the district Roccanolfi.
  • Castello di Todiano, castle dating from the 13th century in the district Todiano.
  • Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate church from the 16th century in the village of Corone.
  • Chiesa di Antonio da Padova, church from the 15th century in the district Roccanolfi.
  • Chiesa di San Bartolomeo church from the 16th century in the district Todiano. Contains the works of Madonna con i Ss. Montano e Bartolomeo by Filippino Lippi and Crucifix tra due angeli, con la Maddalena, San Bartolomeo and San Giovanni Battista (oil on canvas, 223 cm x 175 cm, 1623 originated ) by Francesco Furini.
  • Chiesa di Santa Caterina, a former church in the capital, is now home (surgery Museum ), the Museo e Centro di Documentazione della Chirurgia Preciana.
