Predictability

Predictability refers to the degree to which a correct quantitative or qualitative prediction of the state of a system can be provided. During the second law of thermodynamics statements about a desired equilibrium state permits and the steady state of some dissipative systems are predictable, there is no general rule to predict the time evolution of a far located from Equilibrium Systems. This is especially true for chaotic systems, the predictability usually exponentially decreases with time.

To quantify the predictability of the divergence of the system trajectories can be used in the phase space, as found is measured by Lyapunov exponents.
