Predrag Vranicki

Predrag Vranicki ( born January 21, 1922 in Benkovac, Croatia, † 31 January 2002) was a Yugoslav university professor, philosopher and author. The author belonged to the circle of the practice group and is therefore considered to be representative of one of Soviet orthodoxy against independent and specific Yugoslav Marxism.

Life

Vranicki graduated in philosophy in Zagreb and received his doctorate at the University of Belgrade. During the Second World War, he fought on the side of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army. From 1947 he was assistant professor from 1952, from 1956 professor of philosophy at the University of Zagreb, founded in 1965 continues the editorial board of the dissident magazine "practice." From 1966 to 1968 he was chairman of the Yugoslav Society for Philosophy. In 1973 he became a member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Vranicki defended the thesis of a possible diversity of Marxist philosophies and criticized the Stalinist concept of Marxism.

His work history of Marxism (Zagreb 1961) provides an important standard work on the history of theories of Marxism dar.
