Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A

PAPP -A ( pregnancy-associated plasma protein- A) is a quantitatively determined in the context of the double - test the first- trimester screening in maternal serum protein, which may provide clues to a malformation in the fetus by deviations from the norm.

So in trisomy 21 may be lowered PAPP-A, a decrease does not mean, conversely necessarily trisomy 21, but only at increased risk for this chromosomal aberration.

The test does not provide a diagnosis, but a statistical probability of impairment depending on the specific PAPP- A value, always in relation to the age of the child, and in combination with the determination of β -hCG and the specific ultrasound nuchal translucency.
