On the album, produced by Taylor worked with well-known jazz musicians such as Hubert Laws, and Ron Carter. Taylor convinced Deodato, to take up on the album classic adaptations. In addition to compositions by Deodato album of him arranged edits the introduction of contains " Also Sprach Zarathustra " by Richard Strauss and " Prelude to Afternoon of a Faun " by Claude Debussy. On another title of the classical European concert music, the Scherzo from Alexander Borodin's String Quartet No. 2 in D major, is also based the title Baubles, Bangles and Beads. With the exception of " Carly & Carole " all the tracks for a big-band instrumentation with strings are arranged.

Title list

Unless otherwise specified, the pieces are written by Deodato, who also arranged all the tracks

The album was recorded on three consecutive days: was born on 12 September 1972 on 14 September; the remaining tracks were recorded on 13 September 1972.

Among the pieces

Thus Spake Zarathustra (2001) spoke not only based on the composition by Richard Strauss, but the arrangement incorporated is also a composition by Deodato, a baião in C major, which contains a counter melody to the main topic. This made it possible Deodato, to overcome weaknesses of previous edits of the piece. On the album, the first recording was used, which was significantly superior to a second recording. Soloists are John Tropea and Stanley Clarke. Ron Carter brought this piece at the request of Deodato with a bass that contained an additional C-string.

Spirit of Summer is a ballad that Deodato had in 1968, written for the held in Rio de Janeiro Third International Song Festival, a song contest. He had first recorded in 1972 on the previous album Percepção. Here Jay Berliner receives the space for a solo on the Spanish guitar; next to Hubert Laws is exposed on the flute and Deodato on the acoustic piano. The theme is presented by the two french horns. The song was later recorded again on the live album Deodato / Airto In Concert in smaller ensembles.

Carly & Carole is Carly Simon and Carole King dedicated; also this song was previously recorded by Deodato, on the album Os catedráticos 73 which was not published at the CTI album only afterwards. The recording contains Arnaldo DeSouteiro According to one of the best solos that Deodato ever grossed on the Fender Rhodes.

Baubles, Bangles and Beads does not use the bossa rhythm that has been used by Claus Ogerman in its version of Sinatra in 1967, but a radio rhythm that is driven by Ron Carter (here on the electric bass guitar ) and Billy Cobham. In addition to Carter and John Tropea has a solo.

Prelude to Afternoon of a Faun used in this piece of the electric piano in addition to the acoustic grand piano. Even his arrangement for the strings is remarkable subtle and effective. Space for flutist Hubert Laws and trumpeter Marvin tribe in the solos will be given.

September 13 came overnight after a break during the recording session Cobham the beat played and improvised with Deodato about Tropea and Carter. Rudy Van Gelder had recorded this spontaneous session that Deodato took her home and, based on the piece composed. John Tropea has a solo; Carter plays electric bass here.
