History

In 1837, the county seat Prenzlau tried a connection to the Prussian railway network. The announced construction of the Berlin- Szczecin railway should be used to bring the train as close as possible to Prenzlau, thus allowing the construction of a branch line. However, during commissioning in 1843 only one station in Passow and a feeding Chaussee were first set up in the county seat. Plans to connect the city directly by rail, has not come to meet part of the Prussian Ministry of Commerce. Only with the efforts of the Western Pomeranian cities Pasewalk, Anklam and Greifswald was the construction of a branch line in the Uckermark and Vorpommern to date again. The construction of the " Uckermärkisch - Vorpommern Railway " was started on August 15, 1861. Already on October 10, 1862 rolled a first railway train of Angermuende to Prenzlau. The first section, in which also is Prenzlau, was finally opened to traffic on 16 March 1863. The ceremonial inauguration of the railway line from Angermuende to Stralsund took place on October 26, 1863 by the Prussian King Wilhelm I. The Prenzlauer Alderman Wilhelm Gottlob Holtz wrote in his diary: " Se. Majesty came here the same after 9 clock in the morning, received by the city authorities, Officer Corps, stands, clergy, guilds, Veterans Association et. cet. and spend about 1 /4 hours on the et with banners, flags, garlands. cet. ornate place. On 27 evening 8 clock the king came on the return trip back through here, but rose not from. On Nov 1, the sheet was opened to traffic. "

The station had five platform tracks ( of which only three are used ), and a reception building of brick in the style of classicism.

1872 was the construction of a sugar factory in place, eliminating the need arose, should transport the sugar beets planted in the area there. For the Prenzlauer orbits were established, which could begin operations on December 2, 1902. West of the Central Railroad Station, a circle has been created and provided with corresponding transfer points between two tracks on the north side of the reception building for it. Just three years ago the railway line Templin Prenzlau had been opened to traffic.

By the year 1910, the route of Angermuende to Stralsund was expanded throughout twofold. A further expansion of the station facilities took place in the 1920s.

During the Second World War, the station building was badly damaged and then rebuilt in modified form. The circle station was decommissioned after the war, the trains operated since then by the other platforms.

After the Second World War, the tracks of Prenzlau to Templin and a main track between the Berlin outer ring and Stralsund were dismantled as reparations to the Soviet Union. The re- commissioning of the continuous double-track line of Angermuende to Stralsund only took place in 1978, the route to Templin could be reopened as early as the 1950s.

In 1985, the station of the railroad board Prenzlau ( hbm Eberswalde ) was renewed in collaboration with the District Construction from scratch. The station was now equipped with a ticket office including luggage storage, a Mitropagaststätte, a newspaper kiosk, toilets and on the opposite platform with a heated waiting room. After completion of the construction of the station was named " Operation of the exemplary order and security ".

In 1987 the station was electrified Prenzlau with the help of helicopters of the Inter flight.

Until the 1990s, the Prenzlauer station was a hub for the railways in the Uckermark. Due to the closure of the compounds according to Templin and the network of Prenzlauer orbits the railway restricted only to the main route between Angermuende and Stralsund.

On 20 January 2008, the new electronic interlocking in Prenzlau went into operation. The interlocking controls 46 signals and 15 points in the section Pasewalk -Wilmersdorf. With this and the new signal box in Tantow the railway line from Berlin to Stralsund including the route to Szczecin is remotely controlled from the control center of the track in Berlin- Pankow. By modernizing the Zugansage accounted for Prenzlau. Announcements are made only in case of deviations from the normal operation of the central plant in Frankfurt ( Oder).
