Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies

Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies, PREMIS short, is an initiative that promotes the same standard at the Library of Congress. The PREMIS standard aims to describe general metadata for digital preservation in a structured way.

In 2003, the international PREMIS working group by the Online Computer Library Center ( OCLC ) and the Research Libraries Group (RLG ) was launched. This developed the PREMIS Data Dictionary as a specification for metadata elements, for a broader application in archives. In May 2005, published by the final report, which contained the 1.0 version of the PREMIS Data Dictionary as well as among other practical assistance for the implementation of metadata in digital archiving systems and corresponding XML schemas. Version 2.0 was released in March 2008.
