Prespa spirlin
Alburnoides prespensis is a freshwater fish of the carp family fish. It was originally considered a subspecies of the cutter ( Alburnoides bipunctatus ) and is endemic to Lake Prespa. Due to the small distribution area the taxon is considered endangered.
Features
Alburnoides prespensis reached a standard length of 90 millimeters. The number of scales on the lateral line is 42 to 46 There are 10 to 11 ½ branched Analflossenstrahlen. Foot column is longer than the eye diameter, the distance between the eyes is 1.2 to 1.4 times larger than the eye diameter. The mouth is terminal and the chin is slightly beveled. The length of the caudal peduncle is 1.8 to 2.2 times the height.
Occurrence
The occurrence of Alburnoides prespensis is limited to the Lake Prespa in the border triangle of Macedonia, Greece and Albania.
Habitat and behavior
Little is known about the life of Alburnoides prespensis. The species inhabits the surf zone along the shore. The spawning season is between May and June.
