Pressurization

As a pressure equalization is the process in which, in two or more separate chambers filled with the same medium, the same pressure is made. The medium may be either a gas or a liquid. In most cases, the pressure compensation is effected by the transport of medium between one or more of said spaces and the environment, or during transport between the chambers. In most cases, they are the medium is air.

When diving and flying ( Steig-/Sinkflug ) arises in the middle ear, a negative or positive pressure in comparison to the environment ( water or cabin pressure). The middle ear is through the so-called Eustachian tube ( eustachian tube ) connected to the throat. This tube is closed in the normal case, it opens during swallowing, so that a pressure compensation can be brought about. Alternatively, a pressure compensation can be made by exhaling while diving in The locked nose to the increased pressure in the throat. This form of pressure equalization is also called Valsalva maneuver.
