Pretty Yende

Pretty Yende ( born March 6, 1985 in Piet Retief ) is a South African soprano.

Life and work

Yende studied at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town and joined already on, among other things as Fiordiligi, Contessa and as Magda in Puccini's La Rondine. International attention she attracted the first time in 2009 when she won the first place in Vienna in all categories of the International Belvedere Singing Competition. 2010 was her European debut as Micaela in Riga in Bizet's Carmen. This was followed by acclaimed performances at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Berenice in Rossini's L' occasione fa il ladro, as Barbarina, Norina and 2012 as Musetta. In January 2013 Pretty Yende debuted with sensational success at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as the Comtesse Adèle in Rossini's Le Comte Ory at the site of Juan Diego Florez. Yende was acclaimed in this role in 2013 at the Theater an der Wien, when she stepped in for the ill Cecilia Bartoli.

In a concert performance of the Yende recently sang Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in Cape Town, a role that she will soon scenic sing at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. They also played a series of concerts in Bad Kissingen, Dusseldorf, Turin and Riga. Debuts are at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (as nouns ), at the Washington Opera (as Micaela ) and at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam as Contessa di Folleville in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims. Also at the Met, she will be seen in other roles and listen to - among other things as Pamina, Susanna, Rosina, Giulietta in Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi, and as Amina in La sonnambula.

Yende lives in Milan and studied further at Mariella Devia.
