Prichard is an American city in Alabama in Mobile County. It has about 27,900 inhabitants ( 2004) on an area of 66.0 km ².

Prichard was built in the 1830s as a small settlement at the former telegraph line. Until around 1900, the place was a very small settlement, then there has been a steady growth of the population. In 1925, Prichard was given city rights and during the Second World War, some shipbuilders and with them many workers in the city settled.

In the 1960s, the city reached its highest population with 47 371 citizens. Since then, the population falls due to the difficult economic situation steadily throughout the region. In the 1980s, the unemployment of the residents of the city reached a value of 80 percent, but now is again dropped to a value of 30 percent.
