Primase
- UniProt: P0ABS5
- CAS Number: 9014-24-8
Primase is the name for an RNA polymerase, that is an enzyme. Primases are components of Primo Omen ( Ssb protein helicase primase ) that play a role in the initiation of duplication of the genetic material.
The primase generated a short RNA molecule start, the primer. This primer anneals to the complementary sequence on the DNA. The resulting piece of double strand is used by the DNA polymerase as a starting point for the extension ( elongation) of the DNA strand.
The primase of prokaryotes is the dnaG protein. In eukaryotes is primase of two subunits, the α done as part of the DNA polymerase priming.
