Sub-system is understood in developmental biology, the emergence of new organs or structures during the development of an organism. The system of organs takes place almost exclusively during embryogenesis in animal organisms. In plants, however, organs such as leaves and flowers during the growth phase can be created.

The German term is also used in English for this situation.
