Primrose Hill

Primrose Hill is a 78 -meter-high hill on the north side of Regent's Park in London and also the name for the surrounding district.

Geography

The hill has a clear view of central London in the southeast and in the north to Belsize Park and Hampstead Heath. Primrose Hill is part of the London Borough of Camden.

History

As the Regent 's Park was once part of the Primrose Hill hunting area of King Henry VIII. In 1842 an Act of Parliament secured the land as public space.

Parts of the built-up area of Primrose Hill consists mainly of Victorian houses, so-called terraces. Primrose Hill has always been one of the most fashionable districts in the urban belt that lies between the core and the suburbs of London and its inhabitants are known that they are wealthy. Primrose Hill is an archetypal example of a successful London urban village, a village London, because of its location and the quality of its socio - historical development.

In October 1678 Primrose Hill was the scene of the mysterious murder of Edmund Berry Godfrey. 1792 organized here the radical Unitarian poet and antiquarian Iolo Morganwg ( Edward Williams ), the first meeting of the Gorsedd Ynys Prydain Beirdd.

Traffic

The area of Primrose Hill is served by two lines of the London Underground: lie on the Northern Line stations Belsize Park and Chalk Farm and on the Jubilee Line stations St John's Wood and Swiss Cottage.
