Prince Carl, Duke of Västergötland

Prince Oscar Carl Wilhelm of Sweden ( born February 27, 1861 in Stockholm, † October 25, 1951 ) was a member of the House of Bernadotte with the title of Duke of Västergötland.

Life

Prince Carl was the third son of King Oscar II of Sweden and his wife, Sophia of Nassau. His eldest brother was King Gustav V of Sweden.

On 31 August 1883 Prince Carl Knight of the Elephant Order.

On August 27, 1897 married Prince Carl in the castle chapel of Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen Princess Ingeborg of Denmark ( 1878-1958 ), daughter of King Frederick VIII of Denmark.

From the union four children were born:

• Margaretha (1899-1977) ∞ 1919 Prince Axel of Denmark ( 1888-1964 )
• Märtha (1901-1954) ∞ 1929 Crown Prince Olav, later the Norwegian King Olav V.
• Astrid (1905-1935) ∞ 1926 Crown Prince Leopold, later the Belgian King Leopold III.
• Carl (1911-2003), since July 6, 1937 Prince Bernadotte
