Prince de Chimay

The rule of Chimay in Hainaut in 1473 was elevated to the Burgundian county Chimay and on April 9, 1486 the Imperial Principality of Chimay. It belonged for a long time the house Croÿ before 1635 came to the House of Arenberg ( with loss of the imperial prince stand ). 1686 the House of Arenberg in Chimay was succeeded by the house Henin- Liétard whose legacy in turn was the family Riquet. The Imperial Prince was renewed in 1735, but was lost again in 1804. The first Prince de Chimay from the family Riquet gained recognition in 1824 in the Netherlands, his younger brother in 1827, the recognition also in the Netherlands and 1834 in Belgium. The younger line died out in 1973, the elderly still exists.
