Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn

Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn (born 27 Oktoberjul / November 7 1745greg in Leicester House, London, .. † September 18, 1790 ) was a British prince.

Life

Henry was the sixth son of Friedrich Ludwig of Hanover and his wife Augusta. On October 22, 1766, shortly before his 21st birthday, he was raised to the Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn and Earl of Dublin.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1768 and there rose up to the Admiral.

It was alleged that he allegedly (later Mrs. Payne ) married on March 4, 1767 secretly a simple citizen's wife, Olive Wilmot. Although the paternity of the Dukes was never proven, they allegedly a child, Olivia Wilmot ( 1772-1834 ). His marriage on October 2, 1772 Lady Anne Horton (or Houghton, the daughter of Simon Luttrell, 1st Earl of Carhampton, and widow of Christopher Horton of Catton Hall ) was the trigger for the Royal Marriages Act 1772 which allows any descendants of George II forbade to marry without the consent of the monarch.
