Prince Max, Duke in Bavaria

Max Emanuel Ludwig Maria Herzog in Bayern ( born January 21, 1937 in Munich, maiden name Max Emanuel Ludwig Maria Prince of Bavaria ) is a German entrepreneur and family member of the Wittelsbach family, the former ruling family of the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Life

Max Emanuel is the second and youngest son of Albrecht of Bavaria (1905-1996) and his first wife, Mary, Countess Draskovic Trakošćan ( 1904-1969 ). He is a great grandson of the last King of Bavaria, Ludwig III. Together with his sisters, the twins Marie Gabriele, and Marie Charlotte ( * 1931), and his brother Franz ( born 1933), he grew up in Munich, Croatia and Hungary. In October 1944 his father was arrested by the Gestapo and imprisoned along with his family in the concentration camps Sachsenhausen and Dachau Flossenbiirg. After the war he attended the Humanist school in Ettal and studied, like his older brother, business administration at the Universities of Munich and Zurich. In Switzerland, he graduated as a bank clerk before he worked in the administration of the court chamber or Wittelsbach Compensation Fund ( WAF ) of the house of Wittelsbach. Max Emanuel is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and State Advisory Board of Malteser. He lives with his family and the Tegernsee Castle gamekeeper castle.

On March 18, 1965, Max Emanuel Prince of Bavaria to maintain the line of Dukes in Bavaria by his great-uncle Duke Ludwig Wilhelm in Bavaria ( 1884-1968 ) adopted, who had from his marriage to Eleonora zu Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg no descendants. Since then, Max Emanuel as his adoptive father bears the family name Duke in Bavaria. He took over the ducal estate in Tegernsee, including the former monastery with the Brauhaus Tegernsee, the Wildbad Kreuth as well as the lands of the former monastery of Banz.

As the current head of the House of Wittelsbach, Duke Franz of Bavaria, and his brother, Duke Max Emanuel in Bayern, no male descendants, the succession passes to Luitpold, then on the first-born son, Ludwig Heinrich Prince of Bavaria. House Legally equal is the marriage of Prince Luitpold of Bavaria pursuant to a deed since 3 March 1999.

Hofkammer or Wittelsbach Compensation Fund ( WAF)

In the dispute over the royal assets Rupprecht of Bavaria founded in 1923 the Wittelsbach Compensation Fund and the Wittelsbach State Foundation, in which he tied the Wittelsbach possession of artworks and other family property such as Schloss Hohenschwangau and Schloss Berchtesgaden in public law foundations. The Wittelsbach Cultural Heritage was thus independent closed from private inheritance for future generations. Among the possessions of the Foundation formerly belonging to the Civil List Castles Castle Hill, Royal Palace Berchtesgaden and Hohenschwangau Castle, the art collection of King Ludwig I (mostly seen in the Old and New Pinakothek and the Glyptothek in Munich), the Secret belong Hausarchiv ( now a division of the Bavarian main State Archives ), and since 1975 he leased the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory.

Not for the Wittelsbach Compensation Fund is the private property of the Wittelsbach family, including the locks Tegernsee, gamekeeper, Leutstetten and Cold Mountain, agriculture and forestry, with 12,500 ha, real estate and industrial shares.

Succession of the Jacobites

Max Emanuel is a descendant of the Scottish and English King James II Stuart with his second wife and a Catholic Maria Beatrice d' Este. He is therefore considered by the Jacobites after the death of his brother Franz as the successor to the British throne, and would be considered by them as Maximilian I, King of England, Scotland, Ireland and France. Whether he will claim this title publicly, is unknown. Of the Jacobites, he is known as Duke of Albany. The position as heir to the House of Stuart is his eldest daughter, Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein fall.

Marriage and descendants

On January 24, 1967 married Max Emanuel Prince of Bavaria in Wildbad Kreuth Elizabeth Countess Christina Douglas ( born December 31, 1940 in Stockholm ), daughter of Count Carl Ludwig Douglas and Ottora Haas - Heye and sister of the Swedish industrialist Count Gustaf Douglas. From their marriage were born five daughters:
