Princess Antonia of Luxembourg

Antonia Roberta Sophie Wilhelmine of Nassau -Weilburg, Princess of Luxembourg ( born October 7, 1899 Castle High Castle, Bavaria, † July 31, 1954 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland ) was the last Bavarian Crown Princess.

Life

Princess Antonia was born the fourth of six daughters of Grand Duke William IV of Luxembourg (1852-1912) and Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal ( 1861-1942).

During the last months of the war she became engaged on February 20, 1918, the 30- year-older Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria. However, this compound was dissolved again for political reasons soon. In February 1921, the re- engagement of the couple was announced, and on 7 April 1921, the wedding took place. The marriage produced six children.

On 27 July 1944, the Gestapo arrested on Adolf Hitler Antonia and her family command, only Rupprecht was able to escape the clutches. The family was interned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and later in Dachau, where they were liberated in April 1945.

Antonia, who could not recover from the stay in the concentration camp, died at the age of 54 in Lenzerheide in Switzerland. She was buried in the church of Santa Maria in Domnica in Rome. Her heart was buried separately and is located in the chapel Altöttings.
