Princess Auguste of Bavaria (1875–1964)

Auguste Maria Luise of Bavaria ( born April 28, 1875 in Munich, † June 25, 1964 in Regensburg ) was until 1918 Princess of Bavaria.

Life

Auguste was the second daughter of Prince Leopold of Bavaria and his wife Gisela of Austria. It was named after her grandmother on the paternal side, Auguste Ferdinande.

On November 15, 1893 married Auguste Joseph August, Archduke of Austria, a son of Joseph Karl Ludwig, Archduke of Austria ( 1833-1905 ) and his wife Princess Clotilde of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha ( 1846-1927 ).

During the First World War she devoted herself wounded by care and financial support. She is the founder of the " gold for iron " movement and after the war was chairman of various charitable organizations.

The family fled from Hungary in 1944, first in the U.S. and then to Germany Margarethe Princess of Thurn and Taxis.

Auguste died in 1964 at the age of 89 years in Regensburg.
