Princess Birgitta of Sweden

Birgitta Ingeborg Alice, Princess of Sweden ( born January 19, 1937 on Haga Palace in Stockholm ), Princess of Hohenzollern, is the second child of Crown Prince Gustav Adolf of Sweden, Duke of Västerbotten, and is thus a sister of King Carl XVI. Gustaf of Sweden.

Princess Brigitta was born on 19 January 1937 as the second child of Crown Prince Gustav Adolf and Princess Sibylla of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha. She has a brother and three sisters: Margaretha, Désirée and Christina. In 1959, during a visit with relatives, Birgitta met at a cocktail party on her future husband. On December 15, 1960, the engagement to Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern ( b. 1932 ) was announced. The civil ceremony took place on 25 May 1961 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the church wedding on May 30, 1961 in the Parish Church of St. John Evangelist held in Sigmaringen.

As the wife of Prince Johann Georg von Hohenzollern she is the only one of the siblings, their spouses comes from a family of high nobility. Thus she was allowed to keep the title of Royal Highness. In 1990, the couple separated, but remained married. Bridget now lives in Majorca. Her husband was until 1998 the Director General of the Bavarian State Painting Collection.

The marriage produced three children:

Princess Birgitta is involved in several charitable organizations and is the honorary chairman of the Royal Swedish golf society that Prince Bertil of Sweden took over after the death of her uncle. It organizes regular golf tournaments on their private golf course in Mallorca, where the "Princess Birgitta Trophy" will be awarded in connection.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms is quartered by a golden narrow Tatzenkreuz and wearing a heart-shaped shield.

The central shield is divided. Right in blue and red, right diagonally divided by a silver slant bar with a golden pile asked Wasagarbe. At top left in a blue auffliegender right golden eagle with a hovering the constellation " Big Dipper " with seven golden stars.
