Princess Feodora of Saxe-Meiningen

Feodora Victoria Auguste Marie Marianne von Sachsen -Meiningen ( born May 12, 1879 in Potsdam, † August 26 1945 in Neuhof castle, near Schmiedeberg ) was a Princess of Saxe -Meiningen and by marriage Princess Reuss to Koestritz.

Life

Feodora was the only child of the Duke Bernhard III. of Saxe- Meiningen (1851-1928) from his marriage to Charlotte (1860-1919), daughter of the German Emperor Friedrich III. Feodora was the first great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Her parents took such good as not to her only, very difficult child, which also showed little interest in education. She grew up mainly by her grandmother Empress Victoria in Friedrichshof.

She married on 24 September 1898 in Wroclaw Prince Heinrich XXX. Reuss to Koestritz, Mr. Jänkendorf on and Neuhof ( 1864-1939 ). The marriage remained childless.

Feodora suffered, as did their ancestor George III. and her mother, under porphyria and spent much of her later life in sanatoriums. At the age of 66 years the princess committed suicide by gassing himself by means of a furnace. She is buried with her husband in the tomb of Neuhof Castle ( Radociny ). The tomb was looted and destroyed after 1945; the remains of the princess were examined for their genetic disease.
