Princess Francisca of Brazil

Francisca of Brazil, Given Name: Dona Francisca Carolina Joana Leopoldina Romana Xavier de Paula Micaela Gabriela Rafaela Gonzaga de Bragança e Áustria, ( born August 2, 1824 in Rio de Janeiro, † March 27, 1898 in Paris) was a princess of Brazil and Infanta of Portugal.

Life

Franziska was the daughter of the first Emperor of Brazil and later King of Portugal Peter I. / IV. and the Archduchess Maria Leopoldine of Austria born.

They married on May 1, 1843 in Rio de Janeiro with the French Prince François d' Orléans, prince de Joinville, a son of the King of the French Louis Philippe I and his wife Maria Amalia of Naples and Sicily. Princess Franziska, died at age 73 in Paris.

The city was founded in 1851 in the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina Dona Francisca was named after her. The following year the city of Joinville was renamed in honor of her husband.
