Princess Irene of the Netherlands

Irene Emma Elisabeth ( * August 5, 1939 at the Palais Soestdijk ), Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange- Nassau, Princess of Lippe - Biesterfeld, is one of three sisters of Beatrix of the Netherlands. Meanwhile, they called Irene van Lippe- Biesterfeld.

She is the second eldest daughter of Queen Juliana and her husband Prince Bernhard.

Through her marriage to the Carlist pretender Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon- Parma in 1964, without the consent of Parliament, she lost officially belonging to the royal family and as a result of her conversion to Catholicism, the right of succession. In 1981, the couple divorced again. Irene's younger sister Christina lost for similar reasons that they belong to the royal family. Except Beatrix heard of her sisters officially only her sister Margriet of the Dutch Royal House.

She is a member of the Club of Budapest, a global association for the promotion of a culture of global responsibility.
