HRH Princess Margriet Pieter van Vollenhoven

Margriet Francisca ( born January 19, 1943 in Ottawa ) Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange- Nassau, Princess of Lippe- Biesterfeld, Mrs van Vollenhoven, is the third daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard of Lippe - Biesterfeld.

Life

Margriet came to Ottawa (Canada) to the world, where the royal family after the occupation of the Netherlands ( coinciding with Belgium and Luxembourg ) stayed by the Wehrmacht since June 1940. The hospital room at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, where the princess was born, had been excluded (see extraterritoriality ) temporarily excluded from the scope of Canadian law, so that Princess Margriet no dual citizenship received, but only the Dutch.

After the liberation of the Netherlands Princess Margriet entered in August 1945 for the first time Dutch soil.

After the education, including the Baarns Lyceum, put in 1961 from the matriculation examination.

Then the princess visited a year lectures on French literature, history and art history at the University of Montpellier. Back in the Netherlands, she enrolled at the Law School of the University of Leiden.

Family

Princess Margriets oldest sister is Princess Beatrix to 30 April 2013 was Queen of the Netherlands on 30 April 1980. In the succession takes Princess Margriet after the children of Willem- Alexander, Prince Constantijn and his children eighth one. Her two other sisters, Irene and Christina lost their belonging to the royal family and were excluded from the succession, because they have entered their marriages without the consent of the Dutch Parliament and converted to Catholicism. Princess Margriet and Prof. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven ( born April 30, 1939 in Schiedam ) were married on 10 January 1967 in The Hague. The couple has four sons and eleven grandchildren:

Functions

Princess Margriet clothed functions in society, social and cultural fields, as a member of the royal family, she also takes on a representative task.

She is patron of the Netherland - America Foundation in New York and the Netherlands American Amity Trust in Washington DC, which were established to strengthen the friendly relations between the Netherlands and the United States.

Princess Margriet holds the post of Vice- President of the Netherlands Red Cross. Between 1995 and 2003 she was also President of the Permanent Commission of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

She is also in Amsterdam and a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Museum Palace Het Loo since 1960 President of the European Cultural Foundation.
