Princess Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen

Marie Luise Alexandra Caroline of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen ( born November 17 1845 in Sigmaringen, † November 26, 1912 in Brussels) was a princess of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen and by marriage, as the Countess of Flanders, Princess of Belgium. She is a great-grandmother of the current King of the Belgians.

Life

Marie was the youngest child of the Hohenzollern princes and Prussian Minister Karl Anton (1811-1885) and his wife Princess Josephine of Baden ( 1813-1900 ). As a child, Marie moved with her family to Dusseldorf in the castle Jägerhof about where her father resided as a Prussian division commander.

She married on 25 April 1867 Prince Philippe of Belgium ( 1837-1905 ), Count of Flanders, the third son of the Belgian king Leopold I. The marriage was consummated in the Berlin Hedwig Church by the Prince-Bishop of Breslau Heinrich Förster.
