Princess Sophia of Gloucester

Princess Sophia Matilda of Gloucester ( * May 29, 1773 in Mayfair, Middlesex, † November 29, 1844 in Bleackheath, Kent ) was a member of the British royal family out of the house of Hanover.

Biography

Sophia was the eldest daughter of William Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1743-1805) and his wife Maria Walpole (1736-1807), daughter of Edward Walpole and his partner Dorothy Clements. Your paternal grandparents were the Prince of Wales, Friedrich Ludwig of Hanover and Princess Augusta of Saxe- Gotha. She was also a niece of British King George III.

Her upbringing and school education were in the hands of several tutors and governesses. A special relationship she had her younger brother Wilhelm Friedrich, Duke of Gloucester (1776-1834) and his future wife, Princess Maria. Although the princess had several suitors, she never married. They later lived in Winkfield, near Windsor, and became the first member of the family true public appointments. Sophia Matilda of Gloucester, died on 29 November 1844 in Mayfair and was buried in St. George 's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
