Printemps (French: Spring ) is a department store chain whose main branch is located in the 9th arrondissement of the French capital Paris on Boulevard Haussmann.

History

The Grands Magasins du Printemps opened by Jules Jaluzot in a house built by Paul Sédille building 1865. 1881 there was a major fire in the episode was the big department store to become a pioneer of electric lighting. It is especially famous for its house built 1923 Art Nouveau glass dome with stained glass. Under the dome there is a café ( "Café Flo "). Since 1975 facade and dome are a registered historic monument.

The department store has several branches throughout France, and also in Andorra, in Tokyo's Ginza neighborhood, Jeddah and in Seoul. The only location in North America, which was opened in Denver in 1987, is now closed.

From 1992 to 2005 belonged Printemps to the PPR Group. In the summer of 2006, PPR sold the department store chain to a consortium of German Bank and the Italian Borletti group. With the sale to PPR wanted more focus on the more profitable luxury goods business, according to a company spokesman.

On April 8, 2013, the Borletti Group and the Real Estate Fund of the German Bank RREEF announced the sale of Printemps known. The buyer is a consortium of investors from Qatar. The purchase price amounts to EUR 1.6 billion, including debt.
