Printer (publishing)

A printing company is a company or a manufacturing facility for printed documents. They are differentiated by product ( eg, newspaper, commercial, labels, continuous or calendar printing, packaging printing, decorative printing ) or on the technology used (eg, gravure, web offset, sheetfed offset printing, pad printing, screen or Digital printing ). The boundaries are indistinct, because printers often produce multiple product types and use different printing techniques.

In addition, there are highly specialized companies that operate a very small market segment (eg, security printing of ID cards, banknotes, and other tamper -risk products).

Prepress and postpress are often found also in print.

Important centers of the German printing industry include Berlin, Essen, Frankfurt (Main ), Hamburg, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Munich, Würzburg and Heidelberg.
