Pristiapogon

Pristiapogon kallopterus

Pristiapogon is a genus of cardinal fish ( Apogonidae ). The fish are found at depths of 1 to 150 meters in coral reefs of the tropical Indo-Pacific. Like all cardinal fish they feed on zooplankton and are mouth brooders. The genus was once one as a subgenus of Apogon.

Features

Pristiapogon species are small, moderately hochrückige fish and 10 to 15 inches long. The first dorsal fin is supported by eight fin rays, second dorsal fin base nine soft rays. The anal fin is supported by two hard and eight soft rays. Paired Uroneuralia missing. The infra orbital Talia ( bones around the eyes ) have a serrated top edge. Also the rear and bottom of the Vorkiemendeckels is sawed. The number of gills reuse beams is 17 to 23 The palate teeth are arranged in a row or is missing. Stomach and intestines are bright ( at Zoramia both organs are black).
