Privolzhsk

Priwolschsk (Russian Приволжск ) is a city in the Ivanovo (Russia) with 16,747 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 50 km northeast of Ivanovo Oblasthauptstadt at the Schatscha, a right tributary of the Volga.

Priwolschsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Since 1485 is known to site of the present town, the village Jakowlewskoje Bolschoye. In the 16th century it belonged to the Ipatios Monastery of Kostroma.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, which now only Jakowlewskoje called village became an important center of the linen industry.

1938 Village and several surrounding housing estates were combined at textile factories and received as Priwolschsk city law. The name is not derived directly from the location at (or on this side ) of the Volga (Russian pri Wolge ) - this is about 15 kilometers away, but by then the name of the most important Leinenweberei Priwolschskaja Kommuna ( Volga Commune ).

Culture and sights

In the city the St. Nicholas Church ( Никольский собор / Nikolski Sobor ) from 1779 and received a number of houses from the 19th century.

Economy and infrastructure

In Priwolschsk there are companies in the textile industry ( Jakowlewsker leash combine ) and a factory for jewelry products ( Krasnaya Presnya ).

The town lies on the railway line to Wolgoretschensk (only freight), which branches off in Furmanov of the route Yaroslavl - Ivanovo. In some 20 kilometers south-west to Furmanov is also the nearest passenger station. By Priwolschsk the highway leads R600 ( Yaroslavl ), Ivanovo, Kostroma ( - Vladimir; 2017 and A113 ).
