PRK Hekari United

(PRK ) Hekari United FC is a football club from the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby. He was known primarily for winning the OFC Champions League 2010, when he prevailed in the final against the New Zealand favorites Waitakere United.

History

Hekari United was founded in 2003. Since the introduction of semi-professional top division Papua New Guinea National Soccer League ( NSL Telikom Cup officially ) in 2006 Hekari won every national championship. 2009 and 2010 represented the team also Papua New Guinea in the OFC Champions League. In the first part, however, it was eliminated with six points as second in the group behind FC Honiara Koloale of the Solomon Islands.

After Hekari United in the OFC Champions League could earn only one point in 2010 in the first two games, the team won four times in a row and thus qualified for the final against Waitakere United, who had previously defeated Auckland City and AS Magenta. Although Waitakere was traded as the clear favorite to Hekari sat in the first leg in Port Moresby in front of 15,000 spectators 3-0. In the return match in New Zealand ranged from a 1-2 defeat for the title. It was the first victory of a team in the OFC Champions League, which did not come from Australia or New Zealand.

The winner of the OFC Champions League Hekari United was qualified as a representative of Oceania for the FIFA Club World Cup 2010 in Abu Dhabi. There the team in the playoffs, however, different from to the quarterfinals against Al- Wahda, the representative of the host country UAE, with a 0-3 defeat of the tournament.
