Proaza

Proaza is a comune ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds municipio in the rest of Spain ) in the south of the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain.

The community with its 794 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) has an area of 5.29 km ² and is divided administratively into eight parroquias.

History

Finds from the Palaeolithic evidence of the early colonization of the community. Bone carvings and petroglyphs indicate that the tribe which has left its mark in Castrillon, Los Teyeros and Samartin.

From the sequence, several hill forts evidence for the persistent colonization by Celtic tribes.

In the Middle Ages, the municipality developed a strategic point on the main connecting route between the Kingdom of León and the Kingdom of Asturias. The Historic Route has the name Camino Real del Puerto de la Mesa and is still by ancient monuments such as the bridge of Ventana ( Puerto de Ventana ) can be seen.

The first written mention is found in a deed from the year 863, in which the lands Uandugio, Pruazia and Charanga are mentioned. The municipality of jurisdiction and the tax jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Oviedo was thus assumed, resulting in repeated uprisings. In 1581, under the reign of Philip II, the separation of church and state violence has been implemented.
