Prognathism

The shape of the teeth than prognathism is referred, in which the dental arches of the upper jaw and lower jaw protrude significantly from the face surface so as to form a so-called snout.

In the course of evolution of man the original prognathism of the early Hominini was gradually reduced. The initially parallel to each other left and right head rows of molars were increasingly rounded, also the canines were smaller. The dentition of modern man is therefore built parabolic and hardly occurs even out of the face area.

In orthodontics called prognathism is regarded as the undesirable position of the maxilla.
