Programmable Gain Amplifier

A programmable gain amplifier (PGA ) ( in German: programmable gain amplifier ) consisting of an operational amplifier serving as the non-inverted amplifier ( electric meters) is connected. Depending on the type and manufacturer, the feedback or subtracted from the individual pins (parallel), the SPI or I2C - bus (serial ) and changed the gain to be adjusted. Partly a programmable analog multiplexer is installed, can be switched over by the between the various input channels.

Application

PGAs found mainly in the field of metrology application to ( can only discrete and depends on its operating voltage, which process signals), the sensitivity of a measurement with ADC to improve. The possibility to use an internal multiplexer has the advantage that only a few pins of the controlling element ( microcontroller) must be used.
