Programme (booklet)

A program brochure is a brochure that is offered to theater performances, concerts and similar events, and contains information about the program and the contributors listed. As a counterpart in the cinema, there were movie program books. Sometimes event lists ( such as broadcast programs ) are referred to in booklet form as a program booklet.

Originally, that is until about the end of the 19th century, there were performances as the accompanying printed materials, only the playbill, on which the authors and contributors were noted, as well as a commercially available text book for them to read during the event. Especially in more difficult text comprehensibility as at the opera or in the absence of a spoken or sung text as in ballet what was intended. In the case of the music program, there were sometimes instrumental music for an action for them to read.

Since then, the auditorium was completely darkened at the theater, could hardly be read along, and it was enough for a summary of the plot. In addition, theater and concert organizers had an interest in printing individual things that were tailored to individual events or rows. The audience, in turn, estimated memorabilia of past events and was ready to spend money. Therefore, the program booklet with plot summaries, explanations and personal information of artists came into use in the 20th century. When changing cast a loose Cast list with the names of its contributors is often inserted in the program booklet.

Program booklets are written and submitted by playwrights and edited. While in the city and state theater of the last twenty years, a scientific nature of program brochures can be observed, they have become about the circus or musicals richly illustrated and often expensive souvenirs.
