The Project Management Institute (PMI ) is a global American Project Management Association.

Overview

The PMI was founded in 1969 outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The determination of the Articles of Association of the Institute by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania marks the beginning of the activities of the Institute. In the same year, the first PMI Seminars and Symposia in Atlanta, Georgia were held with 83 participants. Early 2013 had the PMI claims to be more than a 650,000 members and certificate holders in 185 countries. PMI is the world's largest membership of any project management organization and publisher of the " Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge " ( PMBOK Guide ).

The PMI offers several individual certifications.

  • A Certified Associate in Project Management ( CAPMSM, certified staff in project management ) has basic knowledge of project management. Requirement are 1500 hours working in a project team or 23 contact hours in a formal project management education. The certificate is acquired through a written examination.
  • A Project Management Professional ( PMPSM, project management expert) must - depending on the design - show a specific education and relevant experience of at least 3 hours or 5 Jahre/4.500 Jahre/7.500 hours (within the last eight years) in project management. He has passed a test that checks the project management skills to PMI standard. In addition, he has agreed to the rules of the PMI Code of Ethics ( "Code of Conduct " ) to follow.   • Program Management Professional ( PgMPSM ) After PMI program management is the centralized coordinated management of a group of projects to achieve a strategic program objective. In order to obtain certification as a PgMP, you have to demonstrate to pass an examination on the knowledge and techniques of program management and undergo a performance evaluation by a group of colleagues and experts at least four years of professional experience as a project and program manager.
  • Scheduling Professional ( PMI - SPSM ) A specialization of project management education toward scheduling.
  • Risk Management Professional ( PMI - RMPSM ) A specialization of project management education towards risk management.
  • Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI - ACPSM ) A certification introduced in 2011 for agile project management.

Other project management organizations

In addition to the PMI there is also a non-commercial project management organizations, such as the internationally recognized International Project Management Association (IPMA ), headquartered in Switzerland, with its other regional organizations (such as the GPM German Association for Project Management Association, the Austrian Project Management Austria, the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management ASAPM and the British Association for Project Management APM ) and the Australian Institute of Project Management ( AIPM ). The British government affiliated Office of Government Commerce ( OGC) is the editor of the project management method PRINCE2.
