The Cape Promontory Point is the southernmost point of a mountainous peninsula (English: promontory ), which protrudes from the north to the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

In the 19th century a place was designated approximately 50 km north of Cape also as Promontory Point or Promontory Summit, at which, on 10 May 1869, the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad met to form the First Transcontinental Railroad. This historic site is now recognized as Golden Spike National Historic Site.
