Prompt neutron

Under a prompt neutron is understood in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering, a directly released in the fission of a nucleus neutron. Approximately 99 % of the fission neutrons are emitted as prompt neutrons within 10-14 s.

The costs incurred by the fission fission fragments emit after a few milliseconds to minutes, the remaining 1 % of the neutron as delayed neutrons, without which would not be regulated the chain reaction in a nuclear reactor.
