Prophet River

Prophet River is a river in the Peace River Regional District and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality in the north of the Canadian province of British Columbia. He is a right tributary of the Muskwa River.

The Prophet River Hotsprings Provincial Park is located on the upper reaches of the river. The Prophet River Wayside Provincial Park is located along the middle course of the river. The river is named after the settlement Prophet River, and the Prophet Formation, a stratigraphical unit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. The river has the status of a British Columbia Heritage River.

River

The Prophet River rises in the Bruce Ridge in the Muskwa Ranges in the northern Rocky Mountains at an altitude of about 2000 m. It flows in an easterly direction between the Northern Rocky Mountains Provincial Park and the Redfern - Keily Provincial Park with several waterfalls along the river course. The River flows Hewer Creek to north of Mount Boe. Later Kravac Creek and Richards Creek flow into the Prophet River. North of Klingzut Mountain, at the transition from the mountains to the plains, meets the Besa River on the Prophet River.

Milliken Creek and Bat Creek reach the prophet River east of the Rocky Mountains. Furthermore Minaker River, Bunch Creek, Dethseda Creek, Chipesia Creek and Sass Creek flow into the Prophet River. This turns to the northeast. When flowing through the Prophet River Wayside Provincial Park, the river changes its direction to the north. The Alaska Highway runs for a short distance parallel to the river. Finally reached the Prophet Muskwa River to River into which it flows south-west of Fort Nelson at an altitude of 304 m.

The Muskwa River is a tributary of the Fort Nelson River, which in turn is a tributary of the Liard River. Thus, the Prophet River belongs to the catchment area of the Mackenzie River, which flows into the Arctic Ocean.
