Proscylliidae

In the wrong cat sharks ( Proscylliidae ) is a family of sharks from the order of ground sharks, which includes three genera and seven species.

Like all ground sharks have falsities dogfish

  • Five gill slits
  • Anal fin
  • Two dorsal fins without spines
  • And a nictitating membrane over the eyes.

Of the dogfish, which they are very similar in external form, they differ in that the first dorsal fin begins almost immediately behind the pectoral fin.

Incorrect dogfish mostly live in deep water at the edge of the continental shelf and the slopes of the continental shelf. Through its exact distribution areas, like on the individual genera and species little known.

There are small sharks that are no longer than 1.2 meters and mainly feed on crustaceans and small fish. Some species like the Harlequin dogfish ( Ctenacis fail manni ), which is detected only off Somalia, or the Cuban dogfish ( Eridacnis barbouri ), whose distribution is limited to the Caribbean between Florida and Cuba give rise to the speculation that the wrong dogfish occur only occasionally.
