Prosdocimus

Prosdochimus († ostensibly to 100 in Padua ) was according to legend the first bishop of Padua.

The legendary Vita from the 12th century according to which he was of Greek origin - it is also indicated by the name Prosdokimos - and was sent at the age of 20 years of Peter of Antioch to the mission to Italy. The tradition sees him in close connection with the work of St. Mark, said to have been active in Aquileia, and Apollinaris, the legendary first bishop of Ravenna; Prosdochimus have this missionary to western Veneto. The earliest written mention of the Prosdochimus however, dates only from about the 6th century in the form of an inscription on a relief in the church of Santa Giustina in Padua, which identifies him as a bishop and confessor. A document from the year 860 was first mentioned in his cult. Commemoration of the Holy is the 7th of November.
