Prosopographisches Lexikon der Palaiologenzeit

The prosopographical lexicon of Palaeologi, abbreviated PLP, is a 1976-1995 published 15bändiges Greek- and German -language reference work on the Byzantine prosopography of Palaeologi, which was issued by the Commission for Byzantine Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

The lexicon was created by Erich Trapp in collaboration with Rainer Walther, Hans- Veit Beyer, Katja Sturm- Schnabl, Ewald Kislinger, Socrates Kaplaneres and Ioannis Leontiadis. It includes 12 main, 2 addenda and corrigenda volumes and an index volume. Since 2001 there is also a CD -ROM edition and a paid online edition.

The work regarded as a comprehensive source for the genealogy of persons who are mentioned in Late Byzantine records and writings. It contains notices and biographies of notable Greeks, Italians, Slavs, Albanians and Turks, which is why it is important for the study of the history of these peoples.
