Prosper of Aquitaine

Prosper Tiro of Aquitaine (c. 390 near Limoges; † after 455 in Rome ) was a late ancient writers and a saint in the 5th century. He was also a chancery clerk of Pope Leo I.

Life

Little is known about the lineage and origin Prosper Tiros, but he had a good education and was married. He lived for some time as a monk in Marseille (c. 426 ). Before entering the monastery he asked his wife to devote her life to God. Together with his friend Hilary wrote Augustine to Africa over the semi-Pelagian views in the monasteries of southern Gaul, which Augustin to drive to publish more headlines. Prosper Tiro fought the Semipelagianism energetic.

To 431 he traveled to Pope Celestine I to Rome in order to catch up with him in support of the defense of the doctrine of Augustine against the Semi-pelagians. In the later years, Prosper Tiro turned away from the strict Augustinian doctrine and adopted a more moderate stance. From the year 440 he was hired as a writer and consultant in dogmatic questions to the papal chancery. He was the one involved in the correspondence of Pope Leo I. - so ad in the history of dogma significant Tome Flavianum of 449 -, wrote the other hand also more personal works. So Prosper Tiro wrote a Chronicle, which dates back to the year 455 and does not include irrelevant information.

Prosper Tiro is the patron of poets. His Protestant and Roman Catholic feast day is June 25th. In 1676 he was established with the transfer of bones of a catacomb in the parish church of St. Johann ( Erding) as Patron Saint of Erding. In the public mind he now plays, however, only as a name for the almost time Stout St. Prosper a role.
