Prostacyclin receptor

The prostacyclin receptor ( or abbreviated IP receptor ) is a cell membrane- constant G- protein - coupled receptor in vertebrates that mediates the effects of prostacyclin. He belongs to the top group of the prostaglandin receptors.

It provides, inter alia, the following effects of prostacyclin:

  • The pain- enhancing effect of prostacyclin on sensory nerves (like the EP1 receptor, the pain- enhancing effect of PGE2 -mediated).
  • Inhibition of acid secretion of the stomach (such as the EP3 receptor for PGE2).
  • The inhibition of the contraction of vascular smooth muscle cells.
  • In platelets, inhibition of thrombus formation.
