Prostaglandin D2 receptor

The prostaglandin D2 receptor, DP short receptor is a G protein -coupled receptor, which is anchored in the cell membrane. After binding of prostaglandin D2 in the extracellular domain, bound to the intracellular domain of Gαs protein activates adenylate cyclase, which results in an increase of cAMP in the cell.

The DP receptor is found mainly in the brain, retina, some cells of the smooth muscles (bronchi, small intestine ) and in platelets. Mutations in PTGDR gene are associated with asthmatic symptoms.
