Proteales

Oriental plane (Platanus orientalis)

The silver tree -like ( Proteales ) are an order of flowering plant ( Magnoliopsida ).

Features

The representatives of the Proteales are very different. They share seeds with little or no endosperm. The ovules are often anatrop. The gynoecium is not fused ( chorikarp ). The flowers are often bidentate.

System

The Proteales are within the angiosperms rather basal in the group of Eudikotyledonen. The unity of the three families contained was only detected by molecular genetic studies because they have a few common characteristics.

To order the silver tree -like includes three families with a total of 82 genera and 1610 species:

  • Silver tree family ( Proteaceae )
  • Lotus plants ( Nelumbonaceae )
  • Plane trees plants ( Platanaceae )
