Protected areas of the Czech Republic

The list of protected areas in the Czech Republic comprises state-protected areas in the Czech Republic. The "Law for the Protection of nature and landscape " (114/1992) defines six categories of particularly protected areas and landscape elements:

  • National Park ( národní park (NP ) ): A scenic area which is unique in the national or international scale. It includes natural or little influenced by human ecosystems of exceptional value for science and education.
  • Conservation area ( chráněná krajinná oblast ( PLA ) ): A scenic area with harmoniously shaped landscape, characteristic relief and a large proportion of natural ecosystems.
  • National Nature Reserve ( národní přírodní rezervace (NPR ) ): A smaller area whose ecosystems are significant and unique in national or international scale.
  • Nature Reserve ( přírodní rezervace (PR ) ): A smaller area whose ecosystems are typical and important for each geographic region.
  • National Natural Monument ( národní přírodní památka (NPP ) ): A smaller natural formation with national or international ecological, scientific or aesthetic significance.
  • Natural Monument ( přírodní památka (PP ) ): A smaller natural formation with regional ecological, scientific or aesthetic significance.
