Risk
Proteinase K is a proteinase from the ascomycete Tritirachium album, which belongs to the family of subtilisin-like serine proteases. The enzyme attacks the peptide bonds at both the ends ( exopeptidase ), and in the interior ( endopeptidase ) of the proteins. Proteinase K is used for the degradation of proteins in cell lysates and in the release of nucleic acids.
Application Examples
- Isolation of genomic DNA from bacteria
- Isolating DNA from cells or tissue for the polymerase chain reaction ( PCR)
