Protestantism in China

Protestantism arrived in the 19th century to China.

The Chinese language is divided today the Christians into two groups, Jidu Xinjiao ( Protestantism ) and Tianzhu jiao ( Catholicism ).

Number

The Three - Self Patriotic Movement and the China Christian Council follow the government. The Three - Self Patriotic Movement claimed in 2005 to have 10 to 15 million church members, while Protestant house churches in China over 30 million members ( later estimates up to 100 million ). Christianity booming in China and has a massive growth numbers.

Organization

Within the Protestant distinction is the so-called house churches between (a) the churches of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, ( b ) the assembly points in the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, (c) semi-independent rural churches, and ( d).

The churches of the Three - Self Patriotic Movement and their meeting points are legal, public religious meeting places. What makes it different is that the churches of the Three - Self Patriotic Movement have church buildings and full-time employees, while although the meeting points have federally registered meeting places, these are not necessarily church building, but they have seldom church workers who followed a regular training with have undergone state registration to the Magisterium of the Church. The churches of the Three - Self Patriotic Movement can be found mainly in the cities, while the assembly points are mostly in small towns, market towns or on the outskirts of the cities.

The semi-independent rural churches were almost always founded by laymen and are usually in remote areas of the country. Some of them are registered with the government, some are not. Your relations with the Three-Self Patriotic Association are very different and sometimes complicated. On top of these churches are often "natural line figures" and also the services run very freely.

The so-called " house churches " arise from quite different reasons. They are connected by personal networks, among other things, a lay preacher, and they are characterized by a spiritual- emotional coloring of worship. The services of house churches can be taught in small spaces and in large halls, halls or even in our own church buildings. The services of the house churches are not secret.

History

The Robert Morrison brought in 1807 as First Protestantism to China, the Portuguese Catholic majority and Macao. He made a translation of the Bible.

Most missionaries came from England, the USA, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Mission schools were also open to poor Chinese.

Protestant missionaries played an important role in the exchange of knowledge between the United States and China. Protestant Christians founded the first hospitals in China. Some early leaders of the Chinese Republic, such as Sun Yat-sen were influenced by Protestant teachings. In 1949 there were just over 500,000 baptized Protestants in China.

The going back to Watchman Nee and Witness Lee theological doctrine of the recovery of the Lord (Chinese主 的 恢复/主 的 恢复, Pinyin zhǔ de Huifu, English The Lord's Recovery ) has for the local churches (based on the house churches ) and the associated groups such as the Small herd found worldwide distribution and thus can be anekannt international independent aspects of Chinese theology.
